About Douglas C. Stolz, PhD, CCM
Like many in the field, Dr. Douglas C. Stolz’s involvement in atmospheric science stemmed from early curiosity about thunderstorms that routinely buffeted the northeast United States where he grew up. He later studied lightning, cloud dynamics, and tropical meteorology at the University of Hawaii (B.S. 2010, M.S. 2012) and then radar meteorology at Colorado State University (Ph.D. 2016). Since graduating, he has held positions in academic, private, and public sectors as an applied scientist, consultant, and operational forecaster.
Dr. Stolz is the current Meteorologist-In-Charge at NOAA/NWS Seattle’s Center Weather Service Unit (ZSE). He is chair of the Association of Consulting Meteorologists Ethics and Standards Committee and liaison to the American Meteorological Society’s Board of Best Practices. Outside of meteorological consulting, Dr. Stolz is a certified private pilot (ASEL). He also enjoys surfing and ski touring in throughout Pacific Northwest with his wife and pup.
